GRSec and Thanksgiving

If we stick to the current schedule, November GRSec will fall on 11/20, the Tuesday before the Thanksgiving holiday. I know a lot of folks will probably head out of town or be off of work Wednesday and possibly also Tuesday because of Thanksgiving. Of course, bar-hopping on Tuesday or Wednesday before Thanksigiving is also a time-honored tradition.

So what's the popular opinion? Should we keep it on 11/20 or move it to the 27th, the Tuesday after Thanksgiving? Please leave feedback here or send me a note at my GMail account.

Security Startup Bullies GRSec!

No, not really (read the comments). But Tom Ptacek has been kind enough to centralize the CitySec thing, complete with spiffy message boards.

We minor, but we could be major, if only you would vote on the May meetup location! It's up to you to wrest GRSec from the clutches of mid-size, mid-western metropolitan obscurity and put us on the map with other great cities like South Carolina!

The May GRSec Meetup will be Wednesday, May 23rd from 5:30pm until whenever.

But where, oh, where should we have this meetup? The goal is to pick a spot with good food and a nice beverage selection. As the weather improves, the patio plays a crucial role also. Please post a comment with your suggestion(s).

March Meetup - Wednesday 3/21

Definitely a good number of people interested in getting together in March, and it sounds like Wednesday still works for most people.

The venue hasn't been finalized, so there's still time for you to be heard on this issue. Several folks thought heading into downtown GR was a good idea. Patios probably won't be open yet, so a bigger place is still what's needed. Top candidates include The Black Rose and Bistro Bella Vita, but nothing's off the table at this point.

March Meetup?

Here's your opportunity to be heard on where/when/if we meet in March.

I'm thinking Wednesday, March 21st for the next meetup. It'd be cool to pick a new spot to meet, but I have no objection to a repeat of GRBC, either. But with St. Patrick's Day the week before, I don't know how much demand there will be for a meetup. So please tell me.

Inaugural Meetup Recap

Wednesday, February 21st was the inaugural GRSec meetup at the Grand Rapids Brewing Company. The meetup was well attended and a good time was had by all. Matt Carpenter took some pictures. Hope to get those up here soon.
